Christine Collie Rowland, CEO and Creative Director of Blue Cat Design, is one of 125 Canadian women entrepreneurs and business leaders who will participate in the first-ever Canadian Businesswomen's International Trade Mission being held in Washington, D.C., November 12-14, 1997. The mission will be led by Canada's International Trade Minister Sergio Marchi, who wants more women-led firms to enter the export market as the Government of Canada seeks to double the number of exporters by the year 2000.

Blue Cat Design's Rowland will be both a participant and a mentor at the three-day mission. Trade mission organizers have asked her to speak about her exporting success at a special workshop entitled "Marketing Your Services Successfully in the U.S.A." Blue Cat Design's export sales have risen to its current level of 42 per cent in 1997 from 2 per cent in 1996.

"It's both an honour and a great opportunity to participate in this historic Team Canada mission," says Blue Cat Design's Christine Collie Rowland. " I look forward to sharing export and marketing strategies with mission participants, and to developing contacts with Washington area businesses."

The four day mission will feature market information sessions, networking events and matchmaking meetings aimed at forging bilateral links with leading American firms. Nearly one third of Canadian firms are owned or operated by women. The more than 700 000 women-led businesses in Canada account for 1.7 million jobs and are creating new jobs at a rate four times the national average.

Registration fee, transportation and accommodation costs for the trade mission are paid for by the participants.

The mission is actively supported by the Canadian business community. The mission is sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Royal Bank of Canada, joined by the Business Development Bank of Canada; the Certified General Accountants of Canada, the Export Development Corporation; GM Canada; Hodgson, Russ, Andrews Woods & Goodyear; and IBM.
